Make A Desk From A Closet Door

Turn an old closet door into a roomy desk in less than an hour.

Going green means finding ways to take unused items from your surroundings and turn them into useful items instead of letting them end up in a landfill. If you've got an old closet door, a pair of bi-fold louvered closet doors and a need for a new work desk to spread out on, you've got the perfect opportunity to match the need with your unused items in a truly green fashion. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove all hardware from the single-piece closet door with an appropriately sized screwdriver.

2. Measure and mark the pair of bi-fold hinged closet doors at 27 inches from the ground; cut them on the marks with a hand saw.

3. Space the two hinged closet doors 36 inches away from each other with the hinges facing inward and toward each other. Open each hinged door to a 45-degree angle, with the open angle facing outward from the space.

4. Center and place the single closet door on top of the two open, hinged doors. Mount a 3-inch L-bracket with the associated hardware and a screwdriver to each section of the hinged doors -- four in total -- to secure the single door as a desk top to complete the project.

5. Paint the finished desk in colors to complement your room.
