Mirrored closet doors are a thing of the past thanks to window film.
While mirrored closet doors were once a good solution to widening a room, they may now contrast with your new décor. Uprooting the mirrored closet doors for a new set demands both handiwork and money. However, using window film, you can cover your mirrored closets with anything from a solid hue to decorative patterns and motifs. Transform your space and still stay on budget. Instructions
Preparation
1. With the measuring tape, measure the height and width of your mirrored closets. Add an extra inch to either side of your measurements. You may need the extra inches during installation.
2. Use the scissors to cut the window film according to these measurements.
3. To adhere the film easily onto the mirrored closet, you must clean the mirror first. Create a mixture of water and a few drops of detergent in the spray bottle, or opt for glass cleaner if available.
4. Spray the mirror with the mixture and wipe clean with the paper towels. Check that there are no remaining particles or buildup on the mirrored surface.
Installation
5. Align the window film to the mirror with the release liner facing towards you. You may want to ask for additional help during the installation process.
6. Peel the release liner away from the film with one hand while holding the film firmly in the other. Peel slowly, making sure that the film does not roll and stick onto itself.
7. As you remove the liner, spray the exposed film with the water-detergent mixture. Apply a generous amount. This will temporarily decrease the stickiness of the film, allowing you enough time to stick the film onto the glass and adjust if needed. Alternatively, spray the glass with the same mixture.
8. Place the film on the mirror. Starting from the center, use the squeegee to expunge air bubbles and the solution trapped under the film. Repeat this step several times until the film lies smooth and flat on the surface.
Finish
9. With the box cutter, cut any excess film at the width and sides of the mirror. Use a ruler to make the cut along a straight line.
10. Clean up any water on the floor or on the closet with the paper towels.
11. Do not try to move the mirrored doors at this time. Give enough time for the film to completely dry, at least a couple of days.
