Build A Linen Storage Cabinet

A linen closet can quickly become a necessity for even the smallest of families. Having fresh towels and sheets on hand and having them well organized is a necessity. You can easily build a linen storage cabinet to accommodate all of your linens quickly and easily. In this eHow, you'll build a linen storage cabinet that stands two feet, five feet wide and eight feet tall. Feel free to adjust these measurements to make it fit your space.

Instructions

1. Measure your space from floor to ceiling. In this example, that measurement is eight feet tall. The advantage to building a linen storage closet that runs floor to ceiling is that you can store items you don't frequently use on the top shelf.

2. Cut your wood to size. Cut two pieces of wood to stand eight feet tall and two feet deep. These pieces serve as the sides of your linen storage closet. Next, cut the top and the bottom. Each piece should be two feet deep and five feet wide. Cut the appropriate number of shelves that you would like in your closet. Each shelf should be two feet deep and five feet wide.

3. Connect the sides of your linen closet to the top and bottom. Use wood screws and wood glue to secure these in place. Plan to use four wood screws on each side. When you attach the top and bottom pieces, make sure the top and bottom fit inside your side pieces. That means when you look at your linen closet from the side, you should not be able to see the top or bottom pieces of wood.

4. Install the shelves at least eighteen inches apart. Extra space in your linen closet allows you to stack items such as sheets and towels and store them all together. Leave extra room at the top of your linen storage closet to store tall items, such as pillows.

5. Paint or stain your wood to the color you desire. Once the paint dries, treat the wood with a sealer to prevent moisture from damaging the wood.

6. Accessorize your linen storage cabinet with freestanding baskets. These baskets are great to hold smaller items, such as bath soap or razors, and the basket makes it easy to transport these items to and from the shower.
