Nothing is more frustrating than pawing through clutter in a cabinet or closet to try to find that indispensable item that you need right now. Taking the some time out to clean and reorganize will not only contribute to efficiency but to peace of mind. Does this Spark an idea?

Use Containers

There are many types of containers in many different shapes, sizes and styles.

Obtain a variety of storage containers. Containers are invaluable in both the bathroom and the clothes closet. You can find almost any kind of container imaginable these days from pretty decorative boxes to practical plastic, wood and metal. Baskets for storage are also popular and contribute an informal, natural look. For uniformity and to create a handsome effect, all containers used in any given area should be made from the same material. For the bathroom employ small containers for items such as cotton swabs and band aids, and medium-sized containers for larger items such as hair brushes, shavers, hair products and electrical items such as hair dryers. Lots of storage items are available that are especially designed for clothes closets including shoe caddies and shelves that hang from the closet rod. If you cannot see the contents, label the outside to guarantee that you can find what you want when you want it.

Color coordinate your clothing. This can simplify getting dressed, making it easy to find items that match. If you want to take it a step further, use matching hangers.

Arrange by Types

Group formal wear together in the closet.

Group by type. Obviously, a safe way to organize your clothes is by category, grouping jeans, pants, dresses, skirts and blouses. Formal wear should have a place all to its own. Organize shoes into sections by category, such as casual, outdoor, work and evening, and keep them on racks or in caddies. Evening shoes that are worn less frequently can be stored in labeled storage boxes. Belts and handbags should either being hanging together or in labeled containers. Bathroom necessities also should be grouped according to category, such as oral hygiene, hair care, bath products, electrical appliances and medicines.

Reduce Clutter

Eliminate items that you no longer use

Eliminate clutter. If you haven't used or worn something in a year, consider getting rid of it, unless it has sentimental value. If you can't part with something that you don't use any more, why not store it elsewhere, out of the main use area? Getting rid of things doesn't necessarily mean throwing them away. Consider making a donation of gently used items to a resale shop or charitable organizations.

Bathroom Essentials

A non-breakable container with good drainage is essential for children's bath toys.

Use a shower caddy to organize regularly used products. Put children's bath toys in a waterproof container that drains. Use small containers to hold jewelry and watches to keep them safe while you're washing up. Make sure you have sufficient hooks and towel racks to hang clothing and towels. If you have space, keep a hamper, with a removable bag in the bathroom. To keep magazines and books off the floors and counters, place a magazine rack in the corner. Clean out and replace old publications regularly.

Clothes Closet Racks and Shelving

Adding shelves to closets allows for more organized seperation of clothes and and other items.

Add shelves and racks where possible. Utilize clothing closets to their maximum potential by building shelves all the way up to the ceiling. If you cannot build shelves, you can employ portable shelving. Place clothes, scarves, purses and shoes that are out of season on the top shelf and rotate according to seasonal needs.
