Scrapbooks are an organized, safe and attractive way to preserve memories.
Serious scrapbookers will tell you that a good system of organization can save you time, money and a lot of frustration. Improper storage can damage your paper and tools and make them hard to find. You don't have to spring for an expensive storage system or armoire. Inexpensive wire shelves can provide ample and convenient storage space. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Assemble your shelves. Hang wall shelving or place stand shelving units near your workspace so that they are within easy reach when you are scrapbooking.
2. Line your shelves with plastic shelf liner. This will keep small objects from falling through the wire mesh.
3. Put tray organizers for paper on one shelf. You can use horizontal or vertical trays; just be sure they accommodate 12-by-12-inch paper. If you have a lot of paper, you might want a slot for each color or style. If you don't have much, use at least a few to sort the paper into categories, such as solid card stock, prints, mulberry and vellum.
4. Line another shelf with smaller, shoebox-size plastic storage containers. You can keep smaller equipment and supplies in these, such as adhesives, paper punches and writing tools.
5. Add a storage cube with drawers to one shelf for tiny items, such as buttons, brads and snaps. Use accordion files to organize stickers, die cuts and frames.
6. Hang S-hooks on the shelves. Use these for hanging an assortment of decorative-edged scissors. Leave one shelf open for larger items, such as a paper trimmer or die-cut machine.
7. Keep a plastic bin on the shelf or beside it for scraps so that you can make the most of the paper you have. Put a label on every container so you will know what it holds. Stick labels on top of the shelf liners with the name of the container or object that occupies the space to remind you of where things go when you are done with them.
