2. Cut 2-by-4 boards to fit along your traced outline with a power saw and mount the 2-by-4 boards to the floor with a hammer and nails. Make the outside edge of the 2-by-4 flush with your outline. Mark a 32-inch gap on one of the front facing 2-by-4 boards to establish the gap for the doorway.

3. Extend the outline for the closet up the walls and across the ceiling with a drywall ruler and pencil. Cut and install 2-by-4 boards along this outline by nailing them into the walls with hammer and nails.

4. Cut and install 2-by-4 boards between the top and bottom framing on the floor and ceiling every 16 inches on center with hammer and nails. This creates the framing for the walls. Do not install boards in the doorway gap. Instead, install two studs flush together at each edge of your mark to create a door frame.

5. Cut a 2-by-6 board to a length of 32 inches with a power saw or hand saw. Install the 2-by-6 board 80 inches from the floor, between your door frame studs as a door header.

6. Cut and remove the section of 2-by-4 in the doorway gap with a small hand saw.

7. Measure and cut drywall with a razor and drywall ruler to fit on the outside and inside of the walls. Mount the drywall to the framing with a screwdriver and drywall screws. Finish the drywall by spreading joint compound in the seams and over the screws with a flat scraper. Let the compound dry for 24 hours before painting or finishing the walls.
