Installing a ClosetMaid shelving system will allow you to reduce clutter by giving you additional shelving space in your closet or on your wall. The ClosetMaid Shelftrack system allows easy rearrangement or addition of shelves. The system works with a long rail installed in the wall from which vertical support pieces hang. These, in turn, hold the shelves. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Place the large ClosetMaid shelf track on the wall where you want to install the shelf. Place the track flush against the ceiling. Drill 2-inch screws through the holes in the track and into the wood at the top of the wall.
2. Place the notched end of the standards, which are the pieces where the shelf brackets will attach, over the bottom lip of the rail.
3. Slide the standards into whatever position you need them. Standards are required for every 24 inches of shelf, although having them closer than that will add strength. Once the standards are in place, check behind the standards for a wall stud using a stud finder. If a stud is found, adjust the standard so it is directly in the center of the stud or completely to one side of the stud.
4. Make a pencil mark on the wall through the center-most hole on each standard. If the standard is over drywall, lift up the standard and drill a 1/2-inch hole on your mark. Slip a bolt through the hole that you used to make the mark and screw a bolt toggle over the end of the bolt. Lower the standard back to the wall, and slide the bolt and toggle through the hole. Pull back on the standard just slightly and screw the bolt into the wall. If the standard is over a stud, drill a 2-inch screw through the hole that you marked.
5. Slide the notches on the ends of the shelf brackets into the holes on the standards. Push down to lock the brackets into place.
6. Cut the ClosetMaid wire shelving to fit your setup using a hacksaw. Once it is cut to size, push the wire running along the back of the shelving into the slots on the back of the brackets, locking it into place. Lower the front of the shelving to rest on the front of the brackets.
7. Slide plastic end caps over the exposed wire ends on the shelving.
