Organize With Wire Storage Crates

Home organization is always a challenge; if you can come up with a system that works, you're successful. Using wire storage crates gives you the advantage of being able to quickly see what's inside each container without having to worry about lifting a lid or even reading a label. Many wire storage crates are also attractive enough to use on open shelving, and since they come in a variety of sizes, you'll be able to find one to accommodate all your items in need of organization. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Start with one room first. Pick the one that bothers you most with piles, clutter or just general mess. The bathroom is always a likely candidate!

2. Set aside an entire afternoon or day, if you can, to complete this room. Put on some upbeat music, turn off the phone, and focus on the goal: an organized, usable, enjoyable space.

3. Empty the cupboards, drawers, and other storage items, such as baskets and boxes so you can see what you need to organize.

4. Sort the stuff. Create categories (hair products, make-up, cleaning supplies) and then make a pile for each category.

5. Work through one category at a time, using the wire storage crates to corral and keep the stuff from each category. You may need to play around with using different sizes of crates; you can use one large, for example, or one medium and one small.

6. Think about how often you use the items, and keep the most frequently used items in smaller crates that can be placed on higher, more accessible shelves.

7. Be creative with how you store items in these crates. For example, you can roll up bath towels and place them on end in an extra large wire crate, then just leave the crate sitting in one corner of the bathroom as a decor accent that is also functional. Plus you'll always know when you're out of clean towels.

8. Repeat this process for each room of the house until you've conquered them all.

9. Instruct household members that when an item is removed and used from a wire storage crate, it is always to be placed back so things can stay organized.

10. Adjust your system as needed. Household needs change with the seasons and with circumstances. You may need an extra crate or two in the hall closet to hold hats and gloves during winter; they can work to hold balls and outside toys during the summer.
