A corner can be difficult to decorate due to its limitations of space and measurements. Building a homemade corner storage cabinet can provide you with additional storage, while using the size and angles of your given corner. A corner storage cabinet can not only be for house storage, such as plates, towels or books, but can also be used as a corner entertainment unit for your electronic devices and your television. Instructions
1. Place the protractor it in the corner that you want to use for the storage cabinet. Ensure that it is an even 90 degree angle. Measure the angle and write it down, if it is less or more than 90 degree. Measure the size of the storage cabinet, using the walls as your guidance. Write the length and height measurements down.
2. Lay the plywood boards down to create the pieces needed for the corner storage cabinet. Draw two wall pieces measuring the height and wall width. Add an additional 1/2-inch in the width to one of the pieces. Cut both pieces using the jigsaw.
3. Create a 45 degree angle on one of the edges of both pieces. Each piece should have a straight edge and a 45 degree edge. If you place the two pieces up to create a 90 degree angle for the corner, the ends facing you should have a 45 degree angle. The angles should face inward in the triangle, so you can mount the cabinet door in a later step.
4. Connect the two side pieces, so you have a 90 degree angle or L-shape. The 1/2-inch longer piece should overlap the end of the second side piece, so the side pieces are even in length. Attach them in the overlapping section using the 1-inch screws and mechanical screwdriver.
5. Measure the inside of the L-shape to determine the measurements of the corner shelves for the cabinet. Determine how many shelves you want and draw them on the plywood boards using the measurements and the protractor. The shelves should be triangular, so they can fit into the L-shape unit.
6. Cut the shelves out, sandpaper the edges and attach them to the L-shape structure using the mechanical screwdriver and screws, so the screws go through the side pieces into the shelves. Cut two additional shelves for the top and bottom of the unit and attach them as the shelves were.
7. Measure the perimeter of the front of the corner storage cabinet. Write down the height and width of the cabinet. Draw the door for the cabinet using the measurements on the plywood with a pencil. Cut the door out using the jigsaw. Smooth the edges with sandpaper.
8. Attach the hinges to the inside of the corner cabinet to ensure that the hinges do not interfere with the cabinet door. Use the 1/4-inch screws and the mechanical screwdriver to ensure the hinges are secured. Line the cabinet door up to the cabinet and attach the second end of the hinges to the inside of the door using the 1/4-inch screws and mechanical screwdriver. Ensure that the door is at least 1/16-inch above the floor to avoid scratches. Open and close the door to ensure it is securely attached.
9. Paint the corner storage cabinet as you please. Let the cabinet dry before moving it into the corner and adding your storage items.
