Install A Vanity With A Linen Cabinet

A new vanity and cabinet help add useful storage to the bathroom.

Having a vanity with a linen cabinet underneath it in your bathroom helps add storage you would not otherwise have. You do need to keep in mind, though, that anything you store below the sink can get wet at one time if there is a problem in the future with the sink's plumbing. To make the installation even easier, buy a cabinet and vanity combination from the store, which already has the cabinet and vanity attached to each other securely. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Turn off the water going to the sink either by closing the house's main water valve or by twisting both handles under the sink clockwise. Turn on the faucet's cold and hot water to make sure they are both shutoff.

2. Put a bucket under the sink and pipes in case some water is still left in the pipes. Use an adjustable wrench to unbolt the hot and cold water lines from the sink, as well as the drain pipe.

3. Undo the anchoring screws or bolts holding the cabinet to the wall, from the inside of the cabinet. Use a pry bar to remove the sink from the cabinet and the cabinet from the wall, then move both the sink and cabinet.

4. Measure the new cabinet and mark its height and width on the wall using a pencil. Measure the position of the pipes relative to the placement of the cabinet, then cut out a hole in that section of the back of the cabinet using a jigsaw.

5. Place the cabinet into position against the wall with the pipes threaded through the back and place wood shims underneath the cabinet to make sure it is level and stable. Drill guide holes through the back of the cabinet and into the wall, then drive anchor screws through the cabinet and wall.

6. Place the new vanity and sink onto the old cabinet as you attach the sink's handles, spout and drain pipe. Lower the vanity onto the new cabinet and attach the drain pipe to the pipe coming from the wall and bolt the water lines to the underside of the faucet. Apply silicone caulk between the vanity and wall and the vanity and cabinet.
