Ways To Organize Your Bedroom

Organize your bedroom by simplifying.

Your bedroom is a place of solitude and retreat, but over time it can become crowded, cluttered and disorganized. One of the best ways to organize your bedroom starts with a desire to simplify. Getting rid of items you no longer use and organizing the remaining items will help bring comfort and beauty to your bedroom space. Does this Spark an idea?

Clean the Closet

One way to organize your bedroom is to start in the closet. Even though items in your closet are not visible, they can quickly become disorganized. Start at the top of your closet and work your way down by cleaning off all the shelves, sorting all unused clothing into give-away piles, organizing hats and accessories into categories and throwing away broken or unwanted items. Use sturdy plastic or wooden hangers for all of your clothing. Clear out all unwanted shoes, and organize your remaining shoes on a shoe rack.

Declutter Personal Belongings

Get rid of any excess clutter. Look at each item in your bedroom and determine whether it has intrinsic beauty, whether it is useful or whether it has sentimental value. If an accessory does not fall into one of these three categories, get rid of it and donate it to a charitable secondhand store. Once you've cleared out the unwanted items, find a place for each accessory that remains. Some items can be stored in drawers or in tubs under your bed. Other items can be used to neatly accessorize and adorn your bedroom.

Group Items Together

Group similar items together. Grouping can free up more space in and around your closet, walls, dresser and floor. For example, take your collection of photos and display them in frames or store them in a photo box. Organize socks and underwear into piles and separate them in your dresser drawers. You can clean up the floor area by putting all of your shoes in the closet on your shoe rack and placing all dirty clothes in a hamper. If you have an item that you collect, create a special tub or basket that can be designated solely for your collection. Keep all of your bedding neatly organized on your bed to reduce clutter.
