Split-foyer homes have a limited amount of space for decorating.
Split-foyer, or split-level, homes are designed so that the entry into your home through the front door is located on the second floor. Once you enter into the foyer, you then can go upstairs to the third floor or downstairs to the first floor. You have a few ways to proceed with decorating a split-foyer home, each of which will make the entry of your home equally inviting. Does this Spark an idea?
Colors
Since the upstairs entry and the downstairs entry can be seen from the split foyer, you must decide on a method of decorating with colors. Use similar colors to tie the theme of your entire house together, which is perhaps the simplest and least expensive method. For instance, if you wish for your home to be decorated in earth tones, incorporate these same colors on the lower level, foyer and upper level of your home. Another option is to use complementary colors. Although these colors seem to be different, they complement each other and allow you to use a different theme for each area of the home while still maintaining a sense of balance. An example is to use shades of yellow on the lower level and shades of violet on the upper level.
Greenery
Add a touch of greenery to the foyer space to make the space more inviting. Place interior plants in each corner of the foyer so that each guest who enters your home is greeted with bright greens and friendly colors of blooming flowers. These plants can either be real or artificial, depending on your willingness to keep up with the maintenance of real indoor plants.
Side Table
Placing a side table beside the front door in the foyer area of your home is ideal for setting your mail on. The side table can also be a place for you to store your keys once you enter your home. The location of the side table ensures that you are always aware of where your keys are and where the new mail for the day is. To make this idea even more specific to your home, build a table from the wall on the sides of the door. If you have wainscoting in this area, use it as a guide to determine where you will build your side table.
Coat Rack and Lighting
Place a coat rack in one of the corners of your foyer entryway. Some split-foyer homes may not have a closet in the foyer area due to the design of the house. Because of the lack of a closet, purchasing a coat rack is helpful and convenient; simply place the coat rack in a location that complements the rest of the foyer decor. As for lighting, this area tends to be a bit dark due to the construction. Install one large bright light directly above the door. Other ideas include placing a row of sconces against the walls on the stairway going upstairs and downstairs.
