Organizing Children'S Closets

Closets can be organized to create orderly and functional storage.

With all of the toys, clothing and outerwear that children accumulate over the years, their closets can quickly become unorganized, filled with clutter and difficult to access. Organized closets leave specified places for each item, with extra space left over. Organize and de-clutter your child's closet to make room for new items and make finding and storing current items possible. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove everything from the closet and place it in piled groups of like items. For example, place clothes in separated piles for each season. Place toys in one pile and accessories in another.

2. Examine the clothing and other items carefully. If an item is not useful or sentimental, set it aside to donate or toss out.

3. Place baskets, crates or boxes on the closet floor to hold your child's shoes and toys. Alternatively, use an over-the-door shoe rack if floor space is limited.

4. Place small cubbyhole shelves or two-drawer storage containers on the floor to hold accessories and clothes you do not want to hang.

5. Replace any broken, rusty or bent hangers with new ones. Wooden or thick plastic hangers keep their shape and provide durability.

6. Replace the items in the closet, utilizing the new organizational storage tools you installed. Hang out-of-season clothes toward the back or most inaccessible part of the closet to save easily accessed space for the items your child currently needs.

7. Purge old items each season to keep the closet organized. At the same time, move the new season's clothing front and center, placing the most recent season's clothes in the back of the closet.
