Decorating a closet is not only an excellent way to keep your personal items organized, it's also a way to showcase your personality. By using a few key items and adding some flair to the basic pieces, your closet will quickly become a place you look forward to dressing in. Color Coordinate Your Clothes and Accessories
Use color to decorate your closet. Separate your clothes by color and hang them accordingly. For example, put all the blue shirts, blue skirts and blue pants together. Use all black hangers or all white hangers to set off the rainbow effect of your closet. Use a shelf in your closet to store handbags or luggage. Arrange them according to color placement of clothing. Paint the outside frame of a floor-length mirror a bright color used in your closet. Hang the mirror on your closet wall when dry. Use different colored or designed push pins to hang your necklaces and belts on.
Decorating Your Closet Using Boxes
Think of the color scheme you would like your closet to have before beginning. Use clear plastic or bright colored shoe boxes to decorate the top of your closet. Place one pair of shoes in each and use a label to mark the pair that is inside. A photograph of each shoe could also be placed, instead of a label, on the outside of each box. Purchase hat boxes in a matching color or a coordinating print to store belts, scarves and small clutches. Purchase hangers in the same color as the boxes. Hang small cup hooks to display your necklaces and bracelets, and hang a painting that reflects the colors you have chosen in your closet.
Decorate an Eclectic Closet With Items You Already Own
Use items you already have around your home to decorate your closet. If space allows, add a small chair to the closet for trying on shoes. Add a mirror, either floor-length or hanging, in any style where there is space. Hang favorite photographs on the wall. Use a wooden ladder to hold shoes and paint it a fun color. Hang purses from the side of the ladder's rails. Use a plastic hanging shoe organizer to hold and store inexpensive jewelry items. Add a small area rug as a focal point for your closet, and hang a small chandelier overhead for lighting and effect.
