Closet Divider Foam

Use closet dividers to organize clothing.

A closet divider is a small round, square or rectangular piece of foam that fits over the clothing rod inside the closet. These dividers divide the closet into sections and help keep clothing and other hanging objects organized. One simple way to make these dividers is to use craft foam and a sewing machine. Sewing the foam helps add stability to the foam and prevents it from cracking and breaking.

Instructions

1. Cut a piece of stabilizer fabric to fit inside the embroidery hoop. Tighten the stabilizer inside the frame so that the fabric is smooth and tight. Cut a piece of foam to fit over the inside of the hoop. Lay the foam over the stabilizer so that it is smooth and flat. Lay a second piece of foam under the stabilizer to create a foam sandwich.

2. Measure the width of the rod inside the closet. Draw a pattern on a sheet of paper that looks like a large "O." Make the center of the "O" slightly larger than the curtain rod. Make the outside of the "O" about 3 inches thick. Mark off a ¼ inch section of the "O." This is the area that will slip over the curtain rod.

3. Place the pattern onto the foam piece. Draw the outline of the "C" shape onto the foam with a chalk pencil.

4. Sew around the marks on the foam. Cut out the design, then return the shape to the embroidery hoop. Sew a second line of thread around the design to add stability to the dividers.

5. Stitch, draw or paint on the information that you want to have on the divider, such as item type, size or color. Use an embroidery needle to sew on the design.

6. Slip the dividers over the closet rod to divide the closet into sections.
