Install Sliding Mirror Doors
Adding sliding mirror doors to a bedroom closet enhances the visual appeal of the door opening, eliminates the floor space intrusion of standard swing doors, and gives the illusion of enlarging the room into the reflected "space." Instructions
1. Use a tape measure to mark the center point of the wall thickness at both top corners of the door opening. Use a chalk line to snap a line connecting the two marks across the top surface of the door jamb.
2. Mark the center point of the wall thickness at the bottom of both sides of the door opening. Use a builder's level to verify that the marks are vertically plumb with the line marked in Step 1. Adjust the bottom marks, if necessary.
3. Measure the full width of the door opening and mark this dimension on the top door track piece. Use a hacksaw to cut the top track square across at the dimension mark.
4. Place the top track flat against the top surface of the door opening, aligning the center screw holes on the chalk line marked in Step 1. Attach the track to the opening's header with the screws supplied with the sliding door tracks. Ensure the front of the track faces in the correct direction.
5. Measure the width of the door opening at the floor and mark the bottom track piece to this dimension. Use a hacksaw to cut the bottom track square across at the dimension mark.
6. Insert the bottom track in the opening and align the ends with the center lines marked in Step 2. Ensure the front of the track faces in the correct direction. Attach the track to the floor with the screws supplied. Note: If the bottom track is being installed over concrete, mark the track's screw hole location on the floor with a punch or awl, then remove to drill anchor holes. With the screw anchors inserted, attach the bottom track to the slab with the screws supplied.
7. Use a screwdriver to lower the bottom roller wheels on both door units by turning the adjusting screw located on each side edge of the doors near the bottom. Rest the door unit on a 2-by-4 wood block and adjust the roller wheels equally until they protrude below the bottom rail of the doors approximately ¼-inch.
8. Position the sliding door unit that will operate on the inside track at the center of the opening. Slip the top of the door into the rear track groove in the top track, then rotate the bottom over the rear track groove in the bottom track and set in place. The door unit should slide back and forth freely.
9. Repeat Step 8 to install the front sliding door unit onto the tracks.
10. Slide the doors to the fully closed position on both sides. The doors should close evenly against the side jambs. To adjust, use a screwdriver to adjust the roller wheels until both doors are plumb to the jamb on both sides and are flush at the top.
