Remove Wire Closet Shelves

Wire closet shelves provide a convenient storage space for your clothes and other goods. What's more, they're lightweight and easy to install, even for a do-it-yourselfer. Although there are many types of wire closet shelves, they all more or less use the same system of mount points and brackets for support. Removing wire closet shelves, whether for remodeling, upgrading or replacing, is fairly simple because of their lightweight nature. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Clean off the shelves of anything being stored on top.

2. Unscrew the mounting brackets, if attached. The bottom portion of the bracket screws into the wall, while the top part of the bracket snaps into the shelf above. Unscrew the bracket from the wall and unsnap it from the shelf.

3. Remove the side mounting points for the shelves. These will not be present on all wire shelf installations. These mounting points are small clips that fasten into the drywall on the side of the closet and support the edges of the shelves. Unsnap the wire shelf from the mounts. Remove them from the wall by unscrewing.

4. Remove the wire shelf from the rear brackets. Depending on your wire shelf model, these may simply lift out of the brackets, or you may need to unsnap them first.

5. Remove the mounting brackets from the wall. Unscrew the mounting screws and pull the brackets off the drywall.
