Make Lactobacillus Acidophilus

Lactobacillus acidophilus is a type of good stomach bacteria that helps with intestinal and digestive health and helps to keep the immune system strong. The bacteria usually live in the intestines and are ingested in foods such as yogurt, cheese, pickles and sauerkraut. Yogurt is a food source that is naturally very high in lactobactillus acidophilus, and when made at home, many of the processes that destroy the good bacteria are avoided so that you get a higher amount of good bacteria in the yogurt.

Instructions

1. Buy yogurt from the store that says it has "active cultures" in it.

2. Pour 4 cups of milk into a pan and place it on the stove. Heat the milk until it is almost at boiling point. This will pasteurize it. Then leave it to cool on the stove until you can place a finger in the milk for over 10 seconds without being burned.

3. Put 1/2 cup of the yogurt you bought from the store into a mixing bowl. Pour 2 cups of the heated milk into the mixing bowl with the yogurt and mix them together.

4. Put the milk and yogurt mixture back into the pan with the other 2 cups of milk without overly mixing the contents together. You do not want the mixture to become too thin, or it will take longer to become firm again. Place the lid on the pan and then wrap a blanket around the pan to keep it warm. Place the wrapped pan in a dark closet overnight.

5. Check if the yogurt that has formed in the pan overnight is firm enough. Leave it wrapped in the closet until it is firm enough for you, but don't leave it unrefrigerated for longer than 32 hours. You will now have yogurt that is high in lactobacillus acidophilus.
