Disguise Closet Doors

Learn disguise unsightly closet doors.

Unsightly closet doors can be almost as bad as the clutter hidden within them. While covering the doors with drapes is often advised, it is not the subtlest solution. Instead, disguise your closet doors by assigning the space a whole new function. Hang a bulletin board and post important memos onto the closet doors. Or transform your closet doors into an attractive accent wall with the help of some new paint color and decorative wall art. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Paint and Attach Hooks

1. Begin by selecting paint color that contrasts the current color of your closet doors. Set the paint can and paintbrush on newspaper beside the door.

2. Apply duck tape to the closet door molding, working your way around until you have a square. Use a ladder to reach the height of the closet door molding. With the paintbrush, paint the inside square of your closet door, leaving the closet door molding as is. Do not paint past the duck tape. Allow 24 hours for the paint to dry. Once dry, remove the duck tape from the door.

3. Take the measuring tape and note the center of the newly painted square. Select three vertical points on the closet door. Depending on the height of your closet doors, the first marking should be no closer than a foot down from the top of the painted square; the second should be 2 feet from the top; and so forth. All markings should be centered. Use pieces of duck tape or chalk to find the markings easily.

4. Working from top to bottom, screw in the hooks over the three markings on your closet door.

Hang Photographs

5. Select which photographs to use with each frame. Cut to size with scissors. Place the photograph in its respective frame. Take the ribbon and cut no less than 4-inch-long pieces for each frame. Loop the ribbon through the hook on the back of each frame, tying a bow at the top.

6. Hang the frames on the closet door, making sure the ribbon bow shows on the hook. Over time, swap the old photographs for new ones. Replace the frames, or opt for artwork instead of photographs.
