Convert A Bedroom To A Closet

Many people want more closet space.

Extra closet space is often something people secretly (or not so secretly) wish they had. It allows for storage of various household items that have no other place, as well as a perfect location to keep your clothing unwrinkled and clean. If you have an extra bedroom, there is no better place to convert into a closet. It will give you the extra space you've been looking for, as long as you know exactly use it. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Move the furniture out of the bedroom. Make sure to get everything, including any pictures on the walls, rugs, carpets or extra plugs. Put outlet covers over your outlets.

2. Clean the room well. Clean the floors, and repaint the walls if desired.

3. Find a storage system that works for you and maximizes your space. You have the option to use the more common closet rod that you can put up in the room, from wall to wall, but doing this will limit your options because all it can be used for is to hang things. If you'd like more options, purchase a closet organizer, which you can find at almost any store. These come in a variety of fashions, some with many shelves and drawers, some customizable and some with fewer closet rods. Make sure to check the weight limits of anything you buy.

4. Secure the closet organizer or closet rods in your room with a screwdriver and screws. Do this by finding the studs in the room with a stud finder and then drilling into the studs. Do not drill into the drywall alone, because it cannot hold very much weight, and your closet organizer or rods will not be adequately supported.

5. Add extra shelving around the top of the room if you would like. Do this as you did the other appliances, and only hang shelving on studs.

6. Add drawers or (if you have room) a small dresser to hold extra clothing or accessories. Do not be afraid to have some fun and add a rug or new lamp, especially if your new closet is a little dark.
