Coat Storage Ideas For Mudrooms

Coat Storage Ideas for Mudrooms

Mudrooms provide a handy space for shedding coats, boots and gloves out of the weather, but they also can become a place where clutter piles up. Organizing your mudroom will make it easier for everyone in the family to find his or her belongings. Proper coat storage can help streamline your process of getting out the door in the morning. Does this Spark an idea?

Hooks

A row of coat hooks is the simplest way to organize coats in a mudroom. You can make the hooks out of anything from simple wooden pegs to steel spikes to old doorknobs. You can even label each hook for a specific member of the family or guests.

Cubbies

You can use wooden dividers to make cubby holes with a long section for coats and a shelf above for hats, mittens and other personal belongings. These cubbies also can organize backpacks and boots.

Lockers

Old gym lockers can find new life as coat storage in your mudroom. You can sometimes find metal lockers at salvage centers, or purchase them new from a manufacturer who supplies schools.

Closet

A pair of bi-fold doors can turn one end of the mudroom into a coat closet. Install a rod to provide plenty of room for hanging coats. During the summer, the closet can serve as out-of-season storage for your coats and other winter wear.
