Make Closet Curtains

Sew your closet curtain in a color to match your room.

If your closet was constructed without or is missing a door, sew a simple one-panel closet curtain. Make a closet curtain in a lightweight fabric with a style and color to match your wall paint and room decor. Slip the finished curtain on a spring-loaded curtain tension rod to conceal your clothing and other stored items.

Instructions

1. Measure your closet doorway. Measure between the doorjambs to get the width. Measure from 1 inch below the top doorjamb to the floor to get the height.

2. Adjust the measurements so your finished curtain will fit and hang properly. Multiply the width measurement by two. Add 2 inches to the height.

3. Cut your fabric to fit the adjusted measurements. Use pinking shears to keep your finished seams from fraying.

4. Fold each vertical edge in 3/4 inch. Stitch.

5. Sew the top and bottom seams. Fold the top edge down exactly 1 inch; stitch to create a casing for your curtain rod. Fold the bottom edge up 3/4 inch; stitch.

6. Iron all vertical and horizontal seams flat.

7. Insert a spring-loaded curtain tension rod into the casing. Squeeze the curtain rod together and place it 1 inch below the top doorjamb. Spread out the curtain across the rod.
