Free Homemade Closet Designs

Building a homemade closet is a simple project for everyone, including beginners. The best part about designing your own closet is that you can customize it according to your needs. Some designs take longer to accomplish, while very basic designs can be completed in as little as two days. The closet can be done in the shortest possible time with proper planning. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Plan the design of your closet. Your old closet can be used a guide to determine the space you need and have available. Measure the width, height and depth of the closet so you are aware of the accurate dimensions of each section of the interior before you start building. Measuring the dimensions makes it easier to choose the right materials, and the overall procedure will be smoother.

2. Grab a pen and paper and write the estimated dimensions of the spaces for clothes. Women's dresses and pants usually require up to 68 inches in length and blouses and shirts are about 36 inches long. Men's pants measure about 44 inches in length and jackets and shirts require about 38 inches in length.

3. Decide if your design will include shelves for shoes or drawers. Consider using boxes or fabric drawers instead of building the drawers. The shelves' average depth should be about 22 inches. Adjust this to fit the size needed if you are using fabric drawers or boxes.

4. Arrange your design to accommodate for convenience. The location of your clothes depends on what you wear daily. If you wear suits and long dresses every day, then it is best to set up the longest hanging section in the most accessible area of the closet space; if you wear blouses or shirts and pants more frequently, the short hanging items should be most accessible.
