Paint Interactive Walls

Interactive walls keep a home fresh and exciting, long after the decorating is done.

The first step in innovative and exciting home decorating should always be selecting a color palate that will complement both the theme and function of the room, as well as the homeowner's own, unique taste and vision for the space. One of the chicest ways to add a touch of contemporary flair and a hint of personality to any room in your home is to select an accent "interactive" paint that will add depth and character no matter what room you're decorating. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Blackboard Walls

1. Stir chalkboard paint, making sure to mix the paint completely.

2. Edge around the border of the area you wish to paint.

3. Adding chalkboard paint to cabinet faces will add depth to any kitchen.

Paint two coats of chalkboard paint on the remaining surface area you wish to cover. Allow to dry completely before using any chalk. You may wish to paint an entire accent wall or, for a more subtle effect, you could try:

Painting the faces of your kitchen cabinets. Use chalk to draw pictures of the dishes that line your shelves, or write out one of your favorite recipes for visitors to admire.

Painting the front of your child's dresser drawers. Let him use chalk to draw or write what he keeps in each drawer.

Paint a border along the midline of your bedroom wall. Use chalk to write out a favorite poem, prayer or even your to-do list.

Magnetic Walls

4. Stir the magnetic paint, making sure to mix the paint completely.

5. Edge the area you wish to paint. Magnetic paint may be used as a primer and once completely dry, can be painted over with any color of regular interior paint while maintaining its magnetic capabilities.

6. Magnetic paint around your home phone allows for easy message taking.

Paint the remaining area you wish you cover with magnetic paint. Once again, you may wish to paint an entire accent wall or try:

Priming the area around your home telephone with magnetic paint and once it dries, paint over the area with chalkboard paint. This will allow you to take down messages using chalk or hang reminders using magnets.

Priming a 4-foot-high border around the bottom of the walls in your child's playroom with magnetic paint. Once it dries, paint a cityscape over the magnetic paint to create a fun, themed wall space for him to stick magnets.

Whiteboard Paint

7. Prepare the surface you wish to paint by sanding it with medium-grit sandpaper. Wipe any debris clear with a dry cloth.

8. Stir Container A and Container B of whiteboard paint individually and then mix containers together thoroughly in a paint tray.

9. Edge the area you wish to paint.

10. With a whiteboard wall in your coatroom, you'll never leave the house without everything you need.

Paint the remaining area you wish to cover with whiteboard paint. For best results, apply paint to walls immediately after mixing and allow to dry completely between coats. Two to three coats are recommended. Once again, you may wish to paint an entire accent wall or try:

Priming an area of your home office with magnetic paint. Once the magnetic paint is dry, paint over it with whiteboard paint. You will now have a magnetic whiteboard, great for ever-changing calendars, strategic planning and meetings.

Painting an area in your mudroom where you can write last-minute reminders for you and your family.

Painting an area in your kitchen for a large, color-coded family calendar.

Glow-in-the-Dark Wall

11. Stir glow-in-the-dark paint, making sure to mix the paint completely.

12. Edge the area you wish to paint.

13. An exciting outerspace landscape will turn a boring closet into a trip to a galaxy far, far away.

Paint the remaining area you wish you cover with glow-in-the-dark paint. In this instance, painting an accent wall is not recommended, but try:

Painting a nighttime sky on your child's bedroom ceiling.

Painting light switches for easier navigation during the middle of the night.

Painting an outerspace landscape inside a dark closet, to turn a normal storage space into a fun rocketship.
