Hang Cabinets Above An Island

Cabinets that are installed above an island need to be attached to the ceiling. This requires proper care to ensure the cabinets are secure. Installing cabinets above an island will increase the storage and versatility of your kitchen. You will have more space to store food and cooking items. Instructions


1. Slide the stud finder across the ceiling to locate the studs in the ceiling. When the stud finder lights up, make a mark on the ceiling with a pencil.


2. Lift the cabinet into position. Have an assistant hold the cabinet. Place a level onto the bottom and sides of the cabinet. Place wood shims between the cabinet and the ceiling to level the cabinet.


3. Screw the cabinet to the ceiling by placing 3 -inch grabber screws through the top of the cabinet and into the ceiling using a power drill. Use at lease two screws into each stud in the ceiling.


4. Place the next cabinet into position next to the previously installed cabinet. Have an assistant hold the cabinet in place while you screw the two cabinets together using 1 1/4-inch grabber screws and a power drill. Ensure the fronts are flush before fastening the two cabinets together.


5. Fasten the cabinet to the ceiling in the same manner as the first. Repeat these steps until each cabinet has been installed.
