Place Closet Rods

Closet rods are very easy to set in place. It will only take about an hour or less. You can purchase expandable closet rods that come with everything you need except for bracing and screws for securing the bracing. These will need to be purchased separately. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Install Your New Closet Rod

1. Measure the width of your closet on each side wall. This is where your anchor boards will be placed. Using this dimension, mark the first measurement on your board. Use your circular saw to cut the measurement. Follow this same procedure for the second anchor board.

2. Determine the height of your closet rod. Reach upward with your arm: the location of your closet rod should be at a comfortable height for you to reach. This will also be the approximate height of your anchor boards. The rod supports will secure to the center of your anchor boards.

3. Secure the anchor boards to the wall on each end of the closet. Use your drill and a Phillips head drill bit. Hold one board to an end wall and insert a screw in one end of the board. Insert the screw about 1 1/2 inches from the end of the board. In each corner of the closet there will be a stud for the screw to secure to. Place your level on the top of the board. When you have determined that the board is level, insert a screw into the other end. Insert two additional screws into each end of the board. Use your tape measure to find the height from the floor to the bottom of the first board. Mark this height on the other end of the closet. Follow these same procedures to secure the second anchor board to the wall.

4. Place a rod support in the center of one anchor board. Use the screws that are supplied with the rod supports to secure it to the anchor board. Use your tape measure to measure from the floor to the bottom of the rod support. Measure from the wall to the rod support. Mark the two measurements on the second anchor board. Install the second rod support on the second anchor board. Insert the ends of the closet rod into the rod supports.
