Dress Up Your Closet

Make the most of your closet space.

Whether you have a spacious walk-in closet in your bedroom or a more limited space, dressing up your closet is one of the best ways to make the most of what you have available. Taking the time to organize your closet properly and add the proper lighting will make your closet more useful and make it easier for you to find just the right outfit, no matter what the occasion. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Install track lighting in your closet if you can. Adding more light makes it easier to find things in your closet and gives the space a light and airy feel.

2. Hang a full length mirror at the end of your walk-in closet. Having a mirror in the closet makes it easier to try on several looks before you leave for work.

3. Install a closet organizing system or make your own using ready-made drawers and shelving units. Mark each drawer with the type of clothing it contains. This labeling makes it easier to keep things organized and find the clothes you need.

4. Use an over-the-door shoe hanger or shoe bags hung from the rod in your closet. Getting your shoes up off the floor makes it easier to find the pair you need. Moving your shoes also allows you to reclaim that floor space for other purposes.

5. Move your out-of-season clothes out of the closet if you can. Keeping only current season clothes in the closet makes the space look less cluttered and makes it easier to find exactly what you are looking for.

6. Go through your entire closet at least once a year and pull out items you no longer want. Donate those clothes to your favorite charity. Cleaning out your closet on a regular basis gives you more space to work with and makes the space look better and less cluttered.
