Many space-hungry individuals struggle with finding enough room in their closets for all of their favorite garments. While adding another closet to your living space would likely be ideal, in most cases, this option isn't available. If you are facing a closet jam-packed with garments that you can't bear to surrender, consider some ways in which you can maximize your closet space and make more room for your beloved articles of clothing. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Add a second bar. Place the bar about halfway down your closet wall so you can hang shirts on the upper tier and pants or skirts on the lower. This practice not only virtually doubles your hanging closet space, but it also makes organization quite a bit easier.
2. Install adjustable shelves instead of fixed ones to give you the luxury of re-arranging your closet space as necessary. Use wooden or wire shelving that rests on pegs to make your closet shelf set-up adjustable without the aid of tools.
3. Place a shelf high in the closet for out-of-season storage. Add this shelf several inches above your top hanging rack. Purchase boxes sized to fit on this shelf to place your out-of-season clothing pieces or other accessories that do not have a place in your current closet.
4. Use vacuum storage bags. Place your out-of-season or rarely worn garments into vacuum storage bags and remove the air from these containers. This process reduces the amount of space that each piece of clothing takes up and frees up more space in your closet for commonly worn garments.
5. Place a hook on the back of the closet door. This option is useful in any closet as long as the door is hinged and not of the sliding variety. Place a screw-in hook or, to avoid damaging the door surface, select an over-the-door option. Use this hook as a hanging place for your pajamas or as a place to hang the clothes you intend to wear the next day.
