Fix A Closet Door Track

If your closet doors fall off the track or rubs against the track, a few simple repairs will correct the problem. Closet door tracks are simple to repair. If the track is broken or bent, all you need to do is replace the track with a new one. If the track is fine, the problem is with the sliding wheels on the closet door. This requires a little more skill and a tool you may already have. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove the sliding closet doors from the track by opening the door, lifting the door and pulling it away from the bottom of the track. Pull the door out and set it on a flat surface.

2. Look at the track to detect any signs of damage such as bent rails or dents. If you find damage like this, unscrew the track with a screwdriver and replace it with a new track. Set the new track into place and screw the mounting screws into the floor. Replace the door. If there is no damage, move on to the next step.

3. Check the track for obstructions such as wood chips or screws. Remove all obstructions and clean the track with regular household cleaners and a clean rag. Vacuum the track to remove any lingering debris and dirt.

4. Place the door back into track by inserting the top and pushing up and in to set the bottom rollers on the track. Slide the door to test it. If the door still sticks, remove it again.

5. Adjust the rollers on the bottom of the door using a screwdriver to raise or lower the rollers. This will allow the doors to slide freely over the track. Adjust the rollers on the top of the door in the same way. Check to ensure the roller wheels are fully exposed above the edge of the door. If the rollers are worn, unscrew and remove them and insert new rollers in their place. Adjust the rollers until the doors slide evenly.
