Some of their picks also were selected by Consumer Search as top toilets based on research and consumer reviews. Best brands include Toto, American Standard, Gerber and Kohler. Toto Toilets
Toilets made by Toto top best-toilet lists from several reviewers. Three models were highly rated. The Toto Drake CST744S is a low-maintenance, affordable toilet at $250. Toilets can easily cost ten times that. The Toto Drake uses gravity to push water and waste down the hole and out of your home. It is efficient, using only 1.6 gallons of water per flush, which adheres to the federal standard. One drawback is that this toilet does not come with a seat.
The two other highly rated Toto models are the Toto Elongated Neorest 600 and the Toto Aquia CST414M-11 Dual Flush Elongated Toilet. The latter retails for $450 and is a decorative, high-profile, two-piece toilet with a dual-flush option. Dual flushing uses two nozzles in the bowl instead of multiple holes around the rim to push water and waste down the drain. The Aquia uses only 1.6 gallons per flush. The Toto Elongated Neorest 600 is different from the other two models. It is a luxury toilet retailing for $3,500. It includes an automatic lid, hands-free auto flush, air purifying system, an integrated washlet system with front and rear warm water washing, an automatic dryer and a deodorizer. Its silent flushing system uses only 1.2 gallons of water per flush.
American Standard Toilets
Three American Standard models are recommended in "top 10" toilet lists. The Compact Cadet 3 FloWise is the most expensive model, retailing for $2,500. It uses only 1.28 gallons of water per flush and is capable of disposing up to 1,000 grams of solid waste in one flush. Its one-piece design makes it easy to clean. A seat is included and its rim is tall enough to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards. The toilet comes with a 5-year warranty. Other American Standard models that made the list are the Traditional Champion 4EL Right Height toilet and the Crane Sure Flush toilet. The Champion retails for $800; the Crane for $200. The Champion uses 1.6 gallons per flush and has an "Ever-Clean" surface that claims to inhibit the growth of mold, bacteria and mildew.
Kohler and Gerber
The last four models on the top ten toilet list are made by Kohler and Gerber. Models include the Kohler Purist Hatbox, which retails for $2,700 and features a single-piece base designed like a cylinder. It uses 1.6 gallons of water per flush and features a pressure-assisted flush that requires an electrical outlet to power.
Kohler's K-3609, which retails for $400, uses only 1.28 gallons of water per flush.
The Gerber Ultra Dual Flush Elongated ErgoHeight DF-21-318 retails for $400 and features a dual-flush option that use 1.6 gallons or 1.1 gallons of water per flush -- the operator chooses which to use.
Gerber's Ultra Flush 21-312, which features a pressure-assist flush and an elongated, two-piece design, also made the list.
