Make Spacesaving Hangers

Hangers can take up a lot of space in a closet.

Since clothes tend to take up much space when hung on hangers beside each other in a closet, closet space is often needed. While there are varieties of space-saving hanger products on the market, many of them are overpriced or poorly made: space-saving plastic hangers often break when holding the heavy weight of clothing. A cheaper and sturdier option is to make your own space-saving hangers.

Instructions

1. Hang the "S" hooks on the closet rail, where the hangers usually hang. Each "S" hook will hold between seven to eight items of clothing, so use the amount required for your closet needs.

2. Attach a utility chain to each "S" hook. Each chain should have about 13 to 15 links on it, depending on the size of the closet and length of clothing, and it should be able to hold at least 35 lbs with ease. When purchasing the chains, have a store assistant help cut the links if the chains only come in larger lengths. If color is important to you, choose a coated chain.

3. Attach one hanger with a clothing item on it into every other link on the chain. Put longer clothing items on the top of the chain while placing shirts and smaller items on the bottom. This is to prevent any dragging of clothing on the floor.
