Renovate An Attic Into A Bedroom

Many people take on home projects without thinking it through and developing plans. One project desired by homeowners is adding on a bedroom. Work out the details to make a remodeling project less stressful and remodel an attic into a bedroom by followng these instructions. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Create a new functional space in an existing area. Unused attic space is a wonderful place to put a new bedroom.

2. Put drywall up on any unfinished walls, such as a closet turned into a hallway to the new bedroom. Cover the seams and nail holes of the drywall with paper tape or fiberglass mesh tape.

3. Apply a thin coating of joint compound over the tape and let dry. Sand down the joint compound and repeat application twice more for a total of three times, then apply texture.

4. Add a closet within the new bedroom. Frame out the closet area. Measure and cut drywall to fit the space. Be sure to leave room for a doorway for the closet. Finish these new walls in the same way as before with tape and joint compound.

5. Cover exposed attic rafters by attaching drywall to them and create a ceiling. Put insulation between the rafters to help keep the room at a constant temperature and to save on energy.

6. Attach doors to the new bedroom and to the closet.

7. Finish the walls once completely dry with a specialty paint finish like a faux finish.
