Swing Doors To A Double Door Closet

If you closet has double doors that slide on a track, or operate on hinges, you can remove the double doors and replace them with swing doors. Swing doors, depending on your preference, can be full-sized doors, or smaller doors, such as a saloon-style door. The installation process does not take too much time, but you might need to special order your doors, depending on the size of the doorframe's opening. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove the old closet doors. Once you have removed the doors, unscrew and remove any tracks, or hinges, that the old closet doors used.

2. Measure the height and the width of the opening for the closet. Depending on the measurement, you might need to order doors that will fit the opening or you might be able to buy doors at a home improvement store. Divide the width of the closet's opening by two because you will be installing two swing doors. Once you have the measurements, you will be able to buy your doors and hinges.

3. Measure the door's frame and mark on the wall where you will install the hinges. Use your drill to make holes on the wall where you will install the hinges according to your measurements. Depending on the measurements, you might not need to drill new holes; the holes from your old hinges might work.

4. Measure and mark the doors where you will install the hinges. Use your drill to make holes in the door where you will install the hinges, according to your measurements.

5. Attach the hinges to the doors, and then screw them into place.

6. Line the hinges up to the predrilled holes in the doorframe, and then screw the hinges into place.
