Hosting a dinner party requires more than making your menu, inviting guests and deciding what to wear. You've got to set the table for your dinner guests. These simple steps will ensure that your table is as appetizing as the food. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Determine how many guests you are having and how many tables you will need.
2. Review your menu to determine what silverware you'll need, since each course requires a separate utensil.
3. Choose a tablecloth or place mats to put on the table. Also, pick a centerpiece that reflects the theme of the party. Fresh flowers and candles compliment any table setting. Candles are also a nice touch.
4. Use a charger under the dinner plate for a more formal look. Plates should be 2 inches from the table's edge and centered directly in front of each chair.
5. Stack your salad plate and soup bowl on top of the dinner plate. The butter plate with butter knife goes above and to the left of the dinner plate.
6. Place the forks to the left of the dinner plate. The knife(s) and spoon go to the right. Place utensils in order of use, starting from the outside in. For example, the salad fork will be to the left of the dinner fork. Place knife blades so that the cutting edge is facing the plate.
7. Position the water glass directly above the knife blade. Wine glasses go to the right of the water glass.
8. Center the napkin on the plates, place it to the left of the forks or arrange it inside of one of the drinking glasses.
9. Finish off your table with festive napkin rings, wine charms and name cards.
