Get creative when organizing tote bags in your closet.
Tote bags and purses add clutter to your closet space. Plus, when you can see your bags, it's a cinch to locate the right tote to go with an outfit. Organizing systems are available for your entire closet, but you can always add minor touches for specific items such as tote bags. Go through your supply, eliminate tote bags you no longer want to use and get the keepers organized in style. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Purchase an over-the-door purse organizer. Adjust racks for different tote bag heights. Standard size hold up to eight tote bags. If space allows, install two racks side-by-side for maximum storage. Kits come with hooks, hardware and instructions on install.
2. Utilize existing closet shelf space, storing totes side-by-side as opposed to stacking so each tote is standing. If shelf space is not available, purchase a purse shelving organizer. Two tote bags can easily fit in each bin, allowing up to 20 bags to be stored in one unit. Organizers can be placed on floor level or on a closet's main shelf above a clothing rack.
3. Purchase a hanging organizer with bins on sides and down the middle. You can fold large totes and stand smaller bags in the spaces. Hooks at the top of the organizer latch onto your standard clothing rack.
4. Screw decorative hooks into closet walls. Arrange vertically with just 6 to 8 inches between each hook to create a stacked effect with your totes and minimize space. If wall space is abundant, alternate hooks on each side so bags are more spread out. Standard towel racks with hooks, as well as tie racks, are also good options.
5. Use hangers. Take a standard hanger and drape two to four totes around the top hook. Hang in your closet as you would clothing. If you do not need to see each tote and just want extra space available, take a large tote, drape it over the hanger hook and store smaller totes inside.
