DIY: Replacing Sliding Glass Door Rollers
To replace sliding glass door rollers you will need the help of a few friends or family members. You will also have to stand outside and find out if your stationary door is installed in front of the sliding door. If the stationary door is the first door or if you also have a screen door you will need to first remove them first. When the other two doors are moved, you will then be able to remove the sliding door and replace your rollers. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Remove your screen door, if you have one, by lifting one end of the screen door using a screwdriver. Lift the roller at the bottom of the screen door frame off of the track with the screwdriver as a lever. Repeat this same procedure for the other end of the screen door and pull it out of the door frame.
2. Remove the stationary door by using your screwdriver to pop up the metal piece that runs along the bottom of the track connecting to the side door jamb. Remove all of the screws holding the stationary unit frame in place. Lift up and pull the stationary door from the door frame.
3. Lift up the sliding door and try to remove it from the door frame. Adjust the rollers on the bottom of the sliding door if you cannot lift it from the door frame. Turn the screws on the rollers clockwise, then try to lift the sliding door out of the door frame.
4. Remove the bottom of the sliding door's frame using the same screws used to adjust the rollers. Unscrew the screws counterclockwise as far as they will go. Tap the bottom of the frame downward with a rubber mallet until it comes off of the sliding door.
5. Remove any rollers that are broken or sticking by unscrewing their screws with your screw driver. Replace the damaged rollers with new rollers and turn the screws on the rollers clockwise all the way so that the rollers will move up into the sliding door. Install the sliding door back into the door frame, then readjust the rollers downward by screwing them counterclockwise. Reinstall the permanent door and the screen door if you have one.
