Instructions

1. Choose a location for your Hawaiian party. Typically, Hawaiian luaus take place outside. You can throw the party in your backyard, at a park, at the beach or at a banquet hall. Select a venue that will work the best for the party. Figure out how much parking you will need, how much space will be required and if you have access to a kitchen or can cook on the site.

2. Send out invitations. When you mail or email the invitations to the guests, send them out at least a month before the party. Add any details to the invitation that you want guests to know, such as a dress requirement or the types of games you will be playing.

3. Decorate the venue with a Hawaiian theme. Set up tiki torches with citronella candles. Place leis on the tables and set up inflatable palm trees. Hang Hawaiian shirts and grass skirts on a clothesline and place brightly colored flowers like orchids and Birds of Paradise in vases on tables to emphasize the Hawaiian theme.

4. Serve Hawaiian-style foods and beverages. Make Hawaiian kabobs, serve tropical fruit like pineapples and include seafood. If you want to have a true Hawaiian party, roast a pig on a spit. Have plenty of food options to accommodate the guests. Serve the food in a buffet style set up to allow guests to feast on their favorite food items. Provide plenty of drink choices for the guests that include both alcoholic and nonalcoholic choices. Drinks like pina coladas, fruit punch and daiquiris all work well for a Hawaiian party. Serve drinks in colorful cups and include paper umbrellas.

5. Entertain the guests. Hire a DJ or set up a sound system to play Hawaiian music to set the tone for the party. Play games or have hula dance competitions and offer prizes to guests like flip-flops, dancing hula girl figurines and leis.
