Cut A Doorknob Hole

Doorknob hole

In times past, drilling a hole for a doorknob was a chore. However, given the improvements in the product, a hole for a doorknob is easy. The one thing to remember is to drill the hole as straight as possible; whether in the face of the door or in the edge of one. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Measure 36 inches up from the floor and make a mark on the door. With a tri square, lightly draw a horizontal line that covers 3 inches including to the edge of the door.

2. Determine the back-set measurement of the knob chosen and mark the horizontal line accordingly.

3. Determine the hole size needed and drill the hole with the hole saw. Center it on the cross hairs created in Steps 1 and 2. Take care to apply even pressure as this hole needs to be as straight and true as possible.

4. Using the same height measurement, mark the edge of the door for the deadlatch. Drill a 1 inch hole with a paddle drill bit.

5. Check all the doorknob parts to be certain they fit properly before installing the knob.
