What Is A Water Closet

A water closet is a small room that holds a toilet and sometimes a washbowl or sink. It can be located within a bathroom, or in another area of your home. Does this Spark an idea?

Benefits

A water closet helps improve hygiene by keeping human waste away from bathing areas. It allows a toilet to remain relatively hidden, making a bathroom appear more attractive.

Function

A water closet allows an individual to use the restroom in an area separate from bathing facilities.

Size

A traditional water closet is small--normally not much bigger than a walk-in closet. Some custom homes feature water closets that are larger, featuring television sets and other technical gadgets.

History

The first Americans awarded a patent for a water closet were James T. Henry and William Campbell in 1875. The modern toilet was refined by Fred Adee. Jet flush technology created by Emerson Motor Company was first marketed by Kohler.

Considerations

Homeowners should consider designer plumbing fixtures when redecorating a water closet. Designer light fixtures, fun accessories and custom built-in shelving are additional design elements to consider.
