Make A Door Pocket Organizer

Make a door pocket organizer using various fabrics for different members of your household.

Sew up these door pocket organizers quickly and easily in a wide variety of fabrics. Using a child's print fabric, make a door pocket organizer to hold various items that can be easily taken with him to another room. For a teenage girl, make one out of fabric that coordinates with the colors in her room for her to store hair accessories or make up. The crafter in your life can use multiple organizers for her little odds and ends. You can also make them as gifts and fill them with small items.

Instructions

1. Lay the background fabric on a flat surface and cut out a 20-by-10-inch rectangle. Lay the coordinating fabric on a flat surface and cut out three 10-by-10-inch squares for the pockets.

2. Fold a pocket in half and iron flat. Repeat with the remaining pockets.

3. Cut three pieces of bias tape, 10 inches each. Position a piece of bias tape over the raw edge of a pocket opposite the folded edge. Secure with straight pins. Sew the bias tape onto the fabric. Repeat with the remaining pockets.

4. Lay the background fabric right-side up on a flat surface. Evenly space the three pockets on the background fabric. Pin the pockets in place. Sew a straight seam along the bottom edge of the pockets to secure them to the background fabric.

5. Cut two pieces of bias tape, 20 inches each, and two pieces, 10 inches each. Position the bias tape over the raw edges of the fabric with the edges of the pocket fabric under the bias tape. Sew the bias tape into place. Repeat with the remaining edges.

6. Cut a piece of bias tape 14 inches long. Sew the open side closed. Along the top, measure 3 inches in from the left and sew one end of the bias tape to the background fabric. Repeat by measuring 3 inches in from the right side and securing the other end of the bias tape.
