Design A Tiny Studio Apartment That Doesn'T Have A Closet

Maximize space when decorating a studio.

Studio apartments are, by their very nature, tiny. The space is typically meant to accommodate one person and is not an ideal space for entertaining. In short, it is a room which includes a kitchen or kitchenette, and a bathroom. Storage is often one element that is lacking in a studio space, and if you don't have a closet, this can be a major issue. However, there are several things you can do to create storage and utilize the space you do have. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Position the bed in one corner of the room. Placing the bed in a corner will maximize space and clearly designate one area of the room for sleeping. Loft beds are popular choices in small spaces because they leave room for furniture, storage and other items underneath. Futons, daybeds and sofa sleepers are also popular because they can double as a living room couch. If you want a regular bed, it's probably best to get a mattress set no bigger than a full size.

2. Place clothing and other items in storage bins or dressers underneath the bed. Loft beds will accommodate tall or wide dressers. You can place items in slim plastic bins and slide them underneath regular beds, day beds and futons.

3. Put dirty clothes in one laundry basket against the wall. This will keep dirty clothing from cluttering up the room.

4. Place a three-panel room divider in front of the bed to separate the bedroom space from entertaining or living room space. This is not necessary when using a day bed or futon because these can double as living room furniture.

5. Put a small couch on the other side of the divider. Sleek, contemporary couch designs often give the illusion of more space.

6. Install a flat screen TV against the wall. Make sure the television is visible from the bed as well as the living room space.

7. Position a desk with a chair or bookshelf underneath the flat screen TV. This will keep you from wasting the TV wall space. You can also utilize your flat screen as a computer monitor if desired, or use your desk or shelf as a place to store your laptop and printer.

8. Add baskets on the desk or bookshelf to hold small items like keys, papers and pens.

9. Set a tall pub table against the wall near the kitchen. Push one to two barstools underneath the table for eating.

10. Hang a few hooks near the door to hang your or your guests' coats. Utilize the same wall space to place your shoes. Keep the space neat by throwing your shoes in a basket.
