California Closet Installation Instructions

California Closets are easily adjustable, with a peg-based system that allows you to move components around.

California Closet Company Inc. offers a custom closet system that is adaptable to any size room or personal needs. Though generally designed and installed with the assistance of a professional, the modular system is simple enough to install yourself. The entire closet hangs from a horizontal steel rail near the ceiling, which supports the wooden dividers, shelves, racks and drawers. Because all the necessary parts come with the system, you only need to supply a screwdriver, a stud finder and a couple of hours' work. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Use an electronic stud finder to locate the wooden studs behind your closet walls. Hold the steel support bar in place and screw it to the studs for a sturdy hold.

2. Hook the suspension bracket of each vertical divider over the rail. Keep them from shifting back and forth by sliding at least one permanent locking shelf in between each pair. Put pegs into the four holes at the height of each cam-lock shelf, set it on top of them, and screw it in place.

3. Install the various components included with your closet system as desired. Each part of the closet uses the peg-holes for support. Attach plastic end caps to opposite holes and fit a rod between them to hang clothes, or stick in four pegs at the same level and set a shelf in them. Drawer-rails and tie racks also snap into the holes, allowing you to add or adjust any component you like with minimal effort.
