Bathroom Storage Ideas

Storage ideas abound for any size bathroom.

Whether your bathroom is small or large, you always seem to need more storage. You might want to store your towels, keep extra supplies such as bath tissue and shampoo, and have necessities like a plunger on hand for easy access. There are many different ways to add storage space to your bathroom. Does this Spark an idea?

Wall Storage

Take a look around your bathroom and you will see empty wall space. In many bathrooms, there is empty wall space over the toilet, next to the shower, and on the wall opposite the shower. Your bathroom may have a divider wall between the toilet and the rest of the space that could be used for storage. You can knock out the drywall in those empty areas, finish with paint and maybe some paneling, and create recessed storage shelves. You can also attach doors to your new wall storage shelves to create bathroom closets.

Cabinets

Two of the most common places for wall cabinets are over the top of the toilet and next to the bathtub or shower. When you mount wall cabinets in your bathroom, be sure to use a stud finder and mount the cabinets on the wooden studs for more stability. The advantage of a wall cabinet is that the top becomes an extra shelf for smaller items like toothpaste, shampoo, and soap.

Under the Sink

Even the smallest bathroom vanity has enough drawer and cabinet space to help make a difference. If you have a pedestal sink and are in desperate need of more storage space, consider replacing the pedestal sink with a traditional cabinet vanity. If you do not want to replace your pedestal sink, you can install small free-standing cabinets or shelving units under the sink, or you can make a curtain to wrap around the base of the sink bowl to conceal what is stored beneath the sink.

Back of the Door

By installing hooks on the back of your bathroom door, you create a place to hang robes, towels, and fashion accessories such as necklaces and bracelets. You can also install a small towel rack, then hang a small set of shelves from it to give you even more storage space.
