Linen Closet Storage Ideas

The term "linen storage closet" seems in some ways like a misnomer. Many of these closets hold more than just washcloths, towels and bedding. From hair products to extra toothpaste to jumbo packs of toilet paper, linen closets tend to store anything bed and bath related. When linen closets aren't organized and maintained properly, instead of being a clean storage space, the linen closet becomes something to be avoided altogether. Reclaim your linen closet with a few storage solutions to make maintenance easier. Does this Spark an idea?

Partitioning Shelves

Most linen closets already have shelves, but a shelf on its own isn't necessary going to be enough. Partitions can be attached to shelves, effectively creating cubbies for your items, keeping everything neatly separated. Labeled bins and baskets serve the same purpose and can hold smaller items like washcloths or can group together similar items, such as hair products or toilet paper. Stainless or plastic pails are good for bath items and can be taken directly from the closet to the bath.

Add-ons for Shelves and Closets

Use under-shelf bins and containers to make the most out of the height of shelves and give smaller items a dedicated space that is size appropriate. Utilize as much wall space as possible by hanging rods and hooks in the closet. Hang individual items or bags on the hooks. Don't forget the door when it comes to storage. Over-the-door storage comes in many variations from single hooks to door length organizing stations.

Store Items

Group like items together. Decorative towel sets can be grouped together, even if they are of varying sizes. The same goes for matching sheet sets. This way, all you have to do is pull out the entire stack from the space instead of hunting separately for each item. For sheets that are not part of a matching set, group by type, but be sure to separate by size as well if there are beds of varying sizes in your home. Wrap antique linens in acid-free tissue paper to prevent them from yellowing.
