Use A Closet Auger

There is nothing worse than a clogged toilet staring you in the face. If you've tried the plunger to no avail, then the next trick up your sleeve should be the closet auger. If the clog is within the first few feet of the plumbing, it just might do the trick. Here are some tips on use a closet auger and unclog that toilet. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Retract the cable of the closet auger. The closet auger is made of semi-flexible wire with sharp or spiral teeth. Using the hand crank, retract the closet auger so that the end of the cable is at the edge of the guide tip.

2. Insert the retracted guide tip so that the curve of the metal is facing the direction of the drain. It should be noted that some bowls drain in the front and others in the back. When inserting be sure to align appropriately.

3. Crank the auger in one direction until it becomes tight against the toilet stoppage. Then crank it in the other direction until it does the same.

4. Repeat the cranking process several times until the obstruction is clear.

5. Remove the closet auger slowly and gently. If it feels stuck, turn the crank back and forth. Do not overtly exert the crank as it can break your toilet bowl.

6. Plunge the toilet using your plunger to remove any further obstructions.
