Bedroom Closet Remodeling Ideas

The majority of homes these days have bedroom closets, but few of these closets have had significant improvement beyond a single rod for hanging clothing and a single shelf. This one size fits all approach to bedroom closet design does not work fort the majority of people. This setup wastes a fair amount of space when storage space is typically at a premium in the home. By remodeling your bedroom closet, you can put all that space to good use. Does this Spark an idea?

Assessing Your Needs

Each person is different, and each person's wardrobe is different as well. A good closet remodel should reflect this. Make an inventory of all your clothing and accessories. Next, make an inventory of any items or boxes that are already being stored inside inside the bedroom closet even if they have no relation to the bedroom.

Storage Options

There are many options for bedroom closet storage. To add hanging clothing space, you can install a second rod below your first rod. In a particularly tall closet, space may even be available for a third rod above the first. Access will be difficult on the third rod, therefore, only use it for out of season clothing or clothing that is rarely worn. Cubby holes and shelves are great for storing shoes and purses in a more stable way than a hanging shoe rack allows. Larger shelves are good for miscellaneous storage and clothing that can't or shouldn't be hung, such as sweaters. Small drawers can be added for undergarments. Clear fronted drawers work well for storing small accessories, such as scarves, ties or gloves. Hooks can be used for belts and hats.

Determining Your Specific Closet Remodel

Each item should have a dedicated space in the closet. Determine what units will store your items comfortably, making sure to leave space for additions. If you find that your closet space will not be large enough for everything to be stored in an accessible and organized manner, consider moving things out of the closet. Place a dresser outside of your closet instead of installing drawers. Put off season clothing in a plastic under-bed container instead of inside the closet. Go through your wardrobe and cull pieces that either don't fit or that you haven't worn in a year.
