Ready To Assemble Garage Cabinets

Ready-to-assemble cabinets often come in a kit with all of the panels and supplies required to build storage cabinets for your garage. These kits are a simple solution for those who wish to built their own cabinets, but have little woodworking experience. If you are planning to construct your own garage storage cabinets using ready-to-assemble kits, gather common woodworking tools to make the assembly process smoother. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Unpack the ready-to-assemble cabinet kit. Identify each of the panels, bolts and pieces in the kit in relation to the identification section of the assembly guide. Familiarize yourself with the side panels, bottom and top panels, assembly screws, hinges for the cabinet doors and the doors, if applicable. Ensure all parts are present against the inventory list.

2. Read the steps in the assembly guide that comes with the ready-to-assemble kit. Follow each step closely to build the cabinets for your garage. Use cabinet clamps to hold the side and end panels in place during construction.

3. Use a power drill and 1 inch long screws to assemble the cabinets. The guide will specify where you need to insert the screws to connect the cabinet frame corners. Assemble the cabinet frame first, so avoid attaching the cabinet door and hinges.

4. Paint the cabinets the color of choice with a paintbrush. Complete the painting before putting the cabinet in the desired location, as it is difficult to paint the cabinets when mounted to the wall or on the floor. Apply several coats of paint for a bolder look. Let the cabinets dry before continuing to the next step.

5. Place the cabinet frame in place on the floor, if they are garage floor cabinets. Attach the cabinet door with the provided hinges after putting the frame in place, as it is harder to carry larger cabinets in place after attaching the doors.

6. Mount the garage cabinets to garage walls, if suited for wall hanging. Use a stud finder, if you have finished garage walls, as the cabinets require additional wall support. Run the finder across the wall and make a pencil mark on the wall to indicate stud location. Mount the cabinets using the 2 inch long screws, so they reach these wall studs. Use visible wooden wall studs as the primary mounting support, if you do not have a finished garage and the studs are visible.
