Organize A Room And Closet

Clean your closet in a weekend so your clothes are easier to find.

Cleaning out a messy room and closet can seem overwhelming. It can be difficult to know where to start or what to do with stuff you really need and use. Take a weekend to completely clear out and organize your room and closet; by the end, your room will be ready to use, and you will be able to find everything in your closet. Organization makes your life easier, and can cut down on stress by making things easier to find. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Clothes

1. Set three laundry baskets on your bed. This will be your sorting station. Designate one basket for things you want to keep, one basket for items to donate to charity and the last basket for things to throw away.

2. Sort through all of your clothes in your closet and dresser drawers and put them in one of the three baskets. Be brutal; if it doesn't fit, either donate or toss it. If it has stains or holes, toss it in the garbage basket.

3. Empty the baskets. Put the clothes to toss in a garbage bag and take it outside. Put the clothing to donate in a box or bag and put it in the trunk of your car. Put the clothes you are keeping back in the closet or dresser; you should have plenty of room now.

Shoes

4. Keep the baskets on the bed. You are now ready to go through your shoes.

5. Put the shoes in the same three baskets to keep, donate or toss. You may end up keeping more shoes than clothes, but that's OK. Toss the ones that have a broken heel, and donate the ones you never wear anymore.

6. Put the shoes you are keeping back in your closet. Use a shoe tree or rack to keep them contained and off the floor.

7. Empty the other two baskets, putting them in bags or boxes and taking them out of the house.

The Rest

8. Put everything else in your room and closet into the three baskets. Clear off your bedside table, the dresser and all the shelves in your closet. There shouldn't be too much left if you have already done the clothing and shoes.

9. Empty the baskets for trash and to donate and take them out of the house. Look at what remains in the basket to keep.

10. Put baskets on the closet shelves to hold miscellaneous items neatly and out of view. A jewelry box on the dresser can hold all of your jewelry.

11. Put away all of the remaining things in your basket. You should have more space in your room to place things, now that you have emptied out a good bit of it.
