Storage Units For Kids

Store your child's belongings with safety and easy access in mind.

Tackle your child's clutter with the wide variety of storage unit options available for purchase or already in your own home. Select the storage you use based on the size of your child's belongings, the size of the room and the height of your child. Don't use cracked or broken storage units and that any toy chests with lids are safe for little hands. Does this Spark an idea?

Shelves and Cubbies

To display children's books, board games and stuffed animals, use shelving units that sit on the floor for a child's easy access. Paint or buy the shelves in bright colors, or to suit your child's taste. Shelving units with enough space to hold baskets and bins for small toy and art supply storage can be very effective. Cubby storage units are shelves of small open cubes with matching tubs fitted inside each cube. Labeled cubbies help keep the contents organized.

Baskets and Bins

Baskets and plastic bins are ways to store items in a children's bedroom or playroom. Decorative baskets with or without fabric linings can hold toys like blocks and small dolls. Colorful bins with lids can store items neatly on shelves or in closets. Toy chests or storage bench seats are available in a wide variety of designs. Use large laundry baskets or tubs to store bigger toys like beach balls and large stuffed animals.

Organizers

Storage organizers can be anything from small zippered bags that hold crayons and markers to full closet organizer systems for clothes and shoes. Cloth travel jewelry organizers can hold a child's hair bands and clips and be stored in canvas cubes. Organizing a child's closet can add a significant amount of storage space. Keeping the closet organized is much easier if most of the items are stored or hung low to the ground so your child can participate.

Repurposed Storage

Repurposing old shelves, cupboards, buckets and milk crates for a child's belongings can be useful storage units for kids. Clean all surfaces thoroughly. Don't use anything that is broken, cracked or chipped. Sand and repaint wooden storage units so surfaces are smooth and safe, free of any possible toxic coatings. Attach child-friendly fabrics with strips of hook-and-loop fasteners to the front of any repurposed storage unit, like a free standing cupboard, that no longer has a door.
