Put Bifold Doors Back On A Track

Bifold doors, often found on closet and pantry openings, operate on a track at the base of each door connected to a simple pivot hinge. Bumping into these doors or just opening them too quickly can easily knock them off their track and push them out of alignment. Putting bifold doors back on track will restore their proper operation, allowing you to open and close them easily again. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Stand the open door in the door opening, with the pivot side of the door aligned with the floor and top brackets.

2. Insert the top pivot pin into the hole in the top pivot bracket, then swing the base of the door to align the lower pivot pin over the floor bracket and set the door down on the bracket.

3. Depress the spring roller on the top of the closing edge of the door to allow it to align with the top track channel, then release the spring roller into the track.

4. Check the leading edge of the door with a level, then adjust the door to plumb by shifting the lower pivot pin in the floor bracket until the door edge is plumb.

5. When the door edge shows plumb, measure the gap at the jamb edge of the door at the top and bottom to verify the space is equal.

6. Repeat Steps 1 through 4 for double bifold doors, adjusting the doors as needed to insure the center gap is approximately 1/8 inch and the top of both doors are aligned. Open and close the doors to verify smooth operation and adjust if necessary.
